Tickford Top refurb, who's done it and was it worth it?

I've got one that's showing its age, canvas tired, frame a bit weathered, zips moody at best and I'm debating whether to restore it or just replace the whole thing with a modern alternative. Part of me loves the classic look and keeping it period correct, especially on an older defender, but I also don't want to pour time and money into something that ends up leaking or flapping like a sail in the wind.
So thats why I`m here to know if anyone done a refurb themselves or had it professionally done?, the ballpark cost?

For me it did cost me maybe $150 in materials and a weekend of cussing. That just drains all your resources, man. F the negativity HAHAHA. By the way, if the frame's still okay, it's worth saving. Gotta keep the old-school charm alive, am I right?

It seems like you're facing a decision that many Defender owners deal with. If you really like the classic vibe and it's in decent shape, a refurbishment could be a good move. If you're handy, you might spend a few hundred bucks on a DIY project, but if you go with a pro, it usualy ranges from $600 to $1000. New canvas kits, like the ones from Exmoor, look nice and cost around £1500 or more, but they save you the stress

I agree. Well wait, 150 in materials?? That's super cheap. If you live in the area as OP you might wanna help out and they'd pay you for your labor. Or what... LOL just a little suggestion where you can both benefit.
